     Director, Research

JOB PROFILE

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Director, Research, to lead the research team responsible to study, tracking and responding to educational reforms related issues as well as livelihoods reforms. As a member of the Centre’s senior leadership team, the Director of Research will assume full ownership of the Centre’s research, design and monitor research projects accordance with the objectives of the Educational Reforms Initiative technical area, as well as Jeevika, our livelihoods reform initiative.

The Director, Research will be responsible to ensure that high-quality research, in line with the goals of the Centre, are carried out, across the different areas of interest in the Centre, focusing on education reforms and livelihoods. This will involve working with different teams within the Centre to help develop, capacitate and deliver the research.

Responsibilities

a) Thought leadership

  • Develop research goals and themes in conjunction with senior management at the Centre;
  • Identify and plan for research needs with School Choice Campaign team and coalition partners; and
  • Develop literature for the School Choice Campaign, write and publish regular articles, research papers, commentaries, legislative analysis of acts and bills to be tabled in the Parliament.

b) Research management

  • Oversee all activities in the Research vertical, including conducting research in identified thrust areas (education and livelihoods), providing on-call research support, and publishing findings in internal and external publications;
  • Analyse the data collected through pilot projects, and report on findings;
  • Coordinate and provide resources to the portal on the Right to Education Act in India. http://righttoeducation.in; and
  • Plan and design dialogues, workshops, and conferences on the research outputs.

c) Organization building

  • Lead the research team: supervise young research associates and interns, continuously improving performance, and producing the outputs that will achieve goals.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures/inputs at programs for students, policy makers, professors and general public; and
  • Represent CCS at academic and policy institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Formal training and experience

  • Master’s/PhD in Economics, Development studies or Public Policy, and 6-8 years of experience in research management.
  • Established record of primary and secondary research;
  • Relevant experience in public policy research and leading teams for at least 5 years;
  • Experience working on education reforms and thorough understanding of the Indian education and developmental sector through published research work;

Skills

  • Excellent writing skills for research papers as well as mass publications;
  • High degree of comfort in the use of market research tools, statistical packages such as Stata, and data analysis; and
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English as well as Hindi, other Indian languages.

Domain expertise

  • Background in social sector research is necessary. Economics or education background preferred.

     Director (Advocacy), Education Reforms Initiative

JOB PROFILE

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Advocacy, to work collaboratively with our team based in New Delhi to develop and advocate for education reforms. As leader of advocacy efforts at the Centre, the Director will assume full ownership of our advocacy goals that involve elected representatives, policy makers and media towards educational reforms in India.

The Director of Advocacy will expand the Centre’s work beyond the k-12 segment, into vocational training and skills development, higher education, special education and other areas within the education space. He/she would take the lead in guiding CCS’ Right to Education Coalition, help facilitate the building of an association of budget private schools in the country, and hold government level meetings and workshops at the Central and State level to ensure that policy reforms are inclusive and substantial. He/she would also coordinate with the Director of Research at the Centre to ensure that key learnings from our in-depth studies, pilot projects, and legislative analyses are taken into account when advocating with stakeholders across the board.

Responsibilities

a) Thought leadership

  • Understanding, and identifying critical issues & advocating for change of policies affecting education, and expanding to areas beyond the k-12 segment (school education, higher education, vocational education, special education);

b) Program design

  • Developing strategies to achieve the goals, tactics for translating the principles of the campaign into sequential, actionable steps;
  • Working collaboratively with coalition partners to identify concerns and craft achievable solutions; and
  • Creating opportunities to demonstrate proofs of concept.

c) Program management

  • Overseeing the School Choice Campaign, our key flagship initiative, including our school voucher pilots;
  • Executing multi-faceted campaigns: Supervising public interest litigation, policy advocacy, mass mobilization, strategic outreach and other activities aimed at reforming educational system;
  • Growing the national RTE coalition into an active and robust forum to demand systemic change;
  • Overseeing a pilot project on skills vouchers for vocational training.

d) Organization building

  • Building and organizing a team of committed young associates, managing the budget, developing a network of support, continuously improving performance, and producing the outputs that will achieve goals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Formal training and experience

  • Master’s/PhD and over 8 years of experience in legislative reform campaigns, program management or research;
  • Demonstrated success in education reform campaigns in India that have used multi-pronged approaches to achieve concrete, measurable results; and
  • Experience in leadership roles in a corporate, government or non-profit environment, with increasing levels of responsibility of 6-8 years.

Skills

  • Ability to build relationships with leaders in the government, corporate community, media and public arena; ability to reconcile the diverse needs of various stakeholders;
  • Fluency with inter-personal relations, marketing, and strategic communications;
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English as well as Hindi, other Indian languages will be an advantage.

  • Background in the fields of governance or legislative change is necessary.

     Senior Coordinator (Advocacy), Education Reforms Initiative

     Research Associate

For the last couple of years, CCS has built a strong portfolio of research and advocacy in the education space, particularly through its School Choice Campaign, and its pilot projects. The School Choice Campaign is an advocacy initiative to improve the poor’s access to quality education for their children. To know more please visit www.schoolchoice.in.

We are currently seeking committed and passionate Research Associate, to work collaboratively with our team based in New Delhi to help conceptualize and be responsible for the design and implementation of research projects that will strengthen the mandate of the School Choice Campaign at CCS.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out independent primary and secondary research that would help strengthen advocacy initiatives of the school choice team.
  • As and when necessary, help select external parties for projects and will also coordinate with them for implementation of time lines and ensuring proper direction of the work.
  • Be responsible for producing regular work for dissemination and will be expected to contribute regularly to the school choice blog.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of the School Choice Campaign for strategy, planning and time lines of research activities under the school choice mandate.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • MA Economics/MSc Statistics from a premier institution;
  • Previous experience in a research role, both academic and advocacy based;
  • Previous experience in the education sector would be an advantage.

     Campaign Associate, School Choice Campaign

JOB PROFILE

The School Choice Campaign is an advocacy initiative to improve the poor’s access to quality education for their children. To know more please visit www.schoolchoice.in.

We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Campaign Associate to support the campaign in garnering momentum towards universal education in India.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, strengthen and working with networks that will further the goals of advocacy mandated for the school choice team. This will include establishing a wide range of working relationships that can range from the field to the government level and use those networks for information gathering as well as dissemination;
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of School choice to identify key stakeholders in the k-12 sector and establish a working network for purposes of gathering anecdotal evidence and dissemination through talks, meetings and workshops;
  • Periodically disseminate information through social media;
  • Partially update the websites and coordinating blog entries internally and externally; and
  • Coordinate conferences and workshops when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • M.A/MSc Social Work or Development Studies from a premier institution.
  • 2 years experience in an advocacy role.
  • Some work in the education sector would be an advantage.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proven experience in network building, communication strategy and dissemination;
  • Must possess the ability to utilize information, research, and analysis and employ sound judgment to disseminate appropriately;
  • Prior experience in mobilization and communication is required; and

     Development Associate

JOB PROFILE

The Development team at CCS supports fund-raising, external outreach and development support activities to sustain and enhance the institutional mission of the Centre. The Development team coordinates and participates in strategic development planning and activities for senior management and project teams. We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Development Associate to provide research, communications, and project management support to the Director of Development and Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising
    • Conducts research on prospects, including individuals, corporations, and foundations as potential sources of private funds for specific projects at the Centre.
    • Conducts ongoing research in business, philanthropy, and related fields to identify potential donors and sources of donor information.
    • Enters data into database on a timely basis for prospect tracking purposes.
    • Participates in the formulation of fund-raising strategy for CCS-wide and specific projects through meetings and discussions with different teams.
    • Makes recommendations about appropriate contacts or visits for development staff.
    • Assists in identifying and marking materials for inclusion in communications/proposals to prospects.
  • Communications
    • Develops materials on the Centre’s activities, and programs for dissemination.
    • Designs and produces collaterals for events, programs and research areas.
    • Maintains high standards of quality in documents produced for circulation.
    • Prepares written reports, resource materials, and presentations as needed.
  • General
    • Remains current with events and trends in local, national, and international business, finance, and philanthropy.

     Manager, Human Resources & Operations

JOB PROFILE

The Operations team at CCS manages the day-to-day functioning of the Centre, including finding talent and keeping our team well-motivated to sustain and enhance the institutional mission of the Centre.

We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Manager to coordinate recruitment and staff development, and to oversee finance/accounts and administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment
    • Co-ordinate the recruitment of staff members across various teams determining grades/steps to be offered as well as initial periods of employment;
    • Carry out reference/background and academic checks for new recruits;
    • Act as focal point for personnel matters including processing of entitlements, issuance of contracts, and maintenance of various personnel records;
  • Human Resources
    • Maintain database and records of CCS Employees
    • Organize induction for new recruits and provide advice and counseling to all staff before taking up their functions on their rights, entitlements and responsibilities;
    • Organize internal retreats and goal setting and reviews; and
    • Act as training focal person for all teams.
  • Finance & Accounts
    • Supervise petty cash and accounts management
    • Ensure maintenance of standard operating procedures in finance
    • Liaise with teams to ensure smooth running of programs
    • Supervise preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Administration
    • Supervise office administration;
    • Provide guidance to administrative staff on procurement, inventory management and planning;

JOB PROFILE

The Development Team at CCS manages external outreach, fundraising, and public relations activities to sustain and enhance the institutional mission of the Centre. The Development Team coordinates and participates in strategic development planning and activities for senior management and project teams.

We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Public Relations Associate who thrives on being the storyteller and building relationships with journalists, bloggers and policy influencers to generate greater awareness about our work while supporting our efforts to grow our brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Media Relations and Outreach
    • Developing and implementing CCS’ public relations outreach
    • Press outreach for education events
    • Identify new media partners and associations
    • Liaise with PR agencies to deliver press news
    • Draft press releases and formulate campaigns
    • Maintain press release schedule for designated programming including writing, routing, distributing
    • Manage the media database
    • Pitch, coordinate and accompany staff on interviews
    • Serve as a liaison for social media
    • Working with colleagues to coordinate documentation of projects needed for press
  • Concept Creation
    • Identify story opportunities, develop potential story ideas and communication projects in order to enhance the image of CCS and its campaigns with media and the general public;

  • Events
    • Assist with communications for events and programs;

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-graduate degree or equivalent in journalism, communications or public relations;
  • At least 3-5 years professional experience in PR, a press office, agency or other media relations environment;
  • Proven track record in campaign-based PR and branding and experience in working in an international environment as well as coordination of rollouts across the country.
  • Be an excellent writer and communicator
  • Have diverse storytelling technique background
  • Show confidence and diplomacy, determination, creativity, grace under pressure and a collaborative spirit
  • Demonstrate success in conducting outreach and developing relationships with press and bloggers (extra points for advertising/marketing trade press and influencers)
