FAQs

What is the difference between the summer and non-summer internship?
The research done in the two internship programs are essentially the same. However, there are some differences in the internship experience.  Summer interns participate with a batch of about 25 peer interns and participate in special workshops and lectures designed to develop their knowledge and skills in research, writing, and policy analysis.  We offer summer internships during a specified period between May and July, whereas non-summer internship can be done any time for two months between September to February.

What is the application process?
Candidates for internship are selected through two tier evaluation process. First, the students are asked to fill out the application form online. (A link to the application form can be found on the Internship main page.) The applications are graded by a team and we shortlist the possible candidates. Second, short listed candidates are called for personal interview in CCS office (over the phone in rare cases) and then the final candidates are selected.

What is the process of evaluation of application form?
Each application is graded on the basis of their answers by a team. Each answer receives points and the applicants who get the maximum points are asked for personal interview.

Is it full time or part time?
It is a full time research project. The interns would be working 8 and 1/2 hrs everyday from Monday to Friday.

What is the nature of the job?
Interns work on their research through both secondary and primary methods, employing the internet, texts from the CCS library, studies, and by conducting field visits. Interns also participate in workshops and make paper presentations. Much of the time is spent working in the CCS office for 8 and ½ hrs, Monday to Friday.

Who is eligible to apply?
Application is open for all college going students, graduate and post graduate, recent graduates, and IB students in 11th and 12th standard. International as well as domestic applications are welcome.

Can high school students apply?
IB Students in 11th and 12th standard by the internship are welcome to apply.

Can those who have finished their studies apply?
Yes, those who have recently finished their studies but who are currently not enrolled in any course can also apply. An ideal candidate should be mainly interested in research and issues of public concern.

Is the Internship open for international students?
Yes, international applicants are welcome.

Will we be given a stipend?
No, we do not provide any stipend for the Internship Program.

What facilities will be available to me?
You will receive basic facilities to work in the office including office space with computer and internet to work on your project.

Do you offer travel assistance to students?
No, we do not offer any travel assistance to national or international students. All the interns must manage their own travel expenditure. We can assist with visa process for international students.

How would I be benefited by the internship program?
Interns benefit from:

  • Training in research, analysis, documenting and coming out with your own research paper.
  • Interaction with academia, media experts and eminent scholars.
  • Learning in communication through field based research.
  • Chance for publication in newspapers, magazines and CCS books.
  • Certificate on successful completion of internship.

What are the possible research topics?
CCS works mainly in the areas of education, livelihood, and governance. The research topics will be related to public policy issues in these areas. Research topic would be decided on during a personal interview with each intern. You can look at the research done by our interns of previous years on our website which would give you fair picture of the kind of project you would be working on.

Can I work on the subject of my interest?
Yes provided the subject of your interest matches our area of work and competence. We call the short listed candidates for personal interview and discuss the topic. There we explore the subject of your interest and our area of work and competence.

Can I do internship from my own city?
There is a possibility of interning from your own city. We have a few "externs" each year working from outside Delhi. The possibility of being an "extern" depends on the subject you are researching on, availability of research guide in the city, and ability of externs to demonstrate ability to work with little supervision. Externs are required to visit to our office at the beginning of the internship for orientation period and are encourage to return to Delhi to make their final presentation, if possible. Externs are also expected to work full time, 8 and 1/2 office hrs from Monday to Friday.

Will CCS provide Research guide?
Yes, we do provide research guides to each intern to help and supervise intern's research.

Who are Research Guides?
Research Guides are the people with competence of supervision and experience in the domain of the research. They are the ones who have already worked on the issue and have sufficient knowledge research. People like academicians and scholars are appointed as Research Guides.

Will I be working in a group or individually?
In summer internship all interns work on individual projects. However, the entire idea of research to be done by whether individual or group depends on the subject of the study. In past we had people working together on one project and also one intern working on two projects. We are open and flexible.

Is CCS flexible with timeline of the Internship?
The summer internship is a very structured program with around 25 candidates interning at the same time. It will not be possible to change the timeline for any of the participants. We suggest applying for non-summer internship to those who can’t come to summer internship. And the time line is flexible for non-summer internship. You can do this anytime for two months between Septembers to February.

Can I send my application form by email or post?
All applications should be submitted through the online process by following the application link on the internship main page. If you have special circumstance, you can also call 011-26537456/26521882.

Why is the Summer Internship taking place in June instead of May?
The Delhi University has postponed its final exams to the month of May. Thus the Internship has been shifted to give Delhi University students an opportunity to apply for the Internship Program.
