1. Background

The Bolo English Project, an initiative of the Centre for Civil Society (CCS), was launched in 2020 to improve English communication skills among students from underserved communities through technology-enabled learning. Building on its success, the Language Learning Lab (LLL) was launched in April 2024 as an innovative school-based initiative to strengthen English communication skills among students studying in Budget Private Schools (BPS).

The Language Learning Lab integrates technology, teacher capacity building, and classroom practices to make English learning engaging, practical, and an integral part of students' everyday learning experience. The programme addresses the challenges of limited access to quality English instruction by equipping schools with a structured digital learning solution, providing continuous teacher professional development, and encouraging parental engagement to reinforce learning beyond the classroom.

During its first year, the initiative reached 7691 students across 15 schools in Delhi and Chandigarh, resulting in a 72% improvement in reading fluency, a 24% increase in pronunciation accuracy, and a 27% improvement in speech rate.

Building on these outcomes, the programme has expanded to 40+ schools across Delhi, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, benefiting more than 20,000 students and engaging over 200 teachers. Teachers play a central role in the successful implementation of the programme by integrating technology-enabled English learning into classroom teaching and creating interactive learning environments that enhance students' communication skills, confidence, and academic readiness.

2. Opportunity Summary

CCS is looking for a teacher training partner to:

• Design a teacher training programme
• Conduct teacher training workshops
• Develop teacher resources and training materials and a toolkit
• Assess learning outcomes and submit a final report

3. Objective of the Workshop

The training aims to:

• Strengthen teachers' pedagogical practices for English language teaching.
• Build teachers' capacity to effectively integrate the Language Learning Lab into regular classroom instruction.
• Enhance teachers' skills in creating engaging, interactive, and learner-centred classrooms.
• Equip teachers with practical strategies to improve students' fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and communication skills.
• Promote effective use of technology to support English language learning.

5. Scope of Work

The selected partner will:

• Design the training programme
  • Develop a structured teacher training curriculum, including session plans, activities and assessments.
  • Prepare training materials, facilitator guides and teacher toolkits.
• Deliver teacher training
  Conduct in-person workshops covering:
  • Integrating the Language Learning Lab into Daily Classroom Teaching
  • Effective English Language Pedagogy for students
  • Building Student Confidence and Motivation
  • Classroom Facilitation and Student Engagement Strategies
  • Creating an English-Rich Classroom and School Environment
• Assess learning
  • Conduct pre- and post-training assessments.
  • Collect participant feedback.
• Report outcomes
  • Submit a workshop report with key findings, outcomes and recommendations.

6. Target Participants

School teachers and educators involved in language instruction (Grades 1 – 8) from budget private schools.

7. Deliverables

• Detailed training plan and session design
• Teacher training workshops: 8 workshops total (4 per phase, one per cluster), as specified in Section 4
• Teacher resource toolkit
• Assessment and feedback reports
• Final impact report

8. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have:

• Experience designing and delivering teacher training programmes
• Experience in language pedagogy, communication skills, or ed-tech tools
• Prior experience working with schools or education programmes
• Strong facilitation and curriculum design skills

9. Proposal Submission Guidelines

• Financial proposal with a detailed cost breakdown
• Proposed implementation timeline

10. Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

• Quality of the proposed training approach
• Relevant experience and past performance
• Innovation and contextual adaptability
• Cost-effectiveness
