Colloquium on liberalism in India

CCS Colloquium is a two-day residential forum, exclusively for our alumni, to participate in-depth discussion on contemporary issues faced by India today.

In this Colloquium, we will explore the state of liberalism in India and the challenges faced by fellow liberals. The discussion will draw on works of Indian liberal thinkers from the past and the present, creating a holistic dialogue on how to pave the way to a freer and more liberal India.

The colloquium provides an opportunity for the alumni to disentangle themselves from distractions and reflect on issues of fundamental and enduring importance. Participants attending the colloquium explore a specified and pre-determined theme together by discussing texts read in advance. Their shared inquiry will be guided by a discussion leader.

EduDoc is an International Short Film Competition organised annually, to celebrate the field of education!

EduDoc is back with its 2017 edition, having an over-arching theme of “Education: Challenges, Innovations and Celebrations”. It provides centre stage to those working towards facilitating quality education to students, despite the scarcity of resources. To applaud this priceless effort, EduDoc is opening its gates to one and all!

All entries have to be sent on or before 15 September 2017, and should be within the stipulated time period of 05:00 minutes (including credits), accompanied with English subtitles (in case of non English entries).

Researching Reality 2017

ìpolicy for Young Leaders is our signature certificate course on public policy, aimed at introducing the participants to the policy landscape in India. The program explores liberal perspectives on and issues related to, public policy; and the institutional framework of our nation.

Accepted candidates will be inducted into a three-day intensive program, scheduled with exciting workshops and interactive academic activities. This will provide those enrolled with the required tools and knowledge to assess government policies through different perspectives. All selected participants will be furnished with a certificate by the end of the program and also be granted access our vast alumni/academic network.

BRINGING TO LIGHT THE SEVERITY OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

Viren Shetty, Director and SVP of Narayana Hrudayalaya, critiques the proposed amendments to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act of 2007.

He writes of the “imperious immediacy of interests” displayed by the government through the amendments proposed to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act (2007) and the “unintended consequences” of increased regulatory burden and price controls borne by healthcare services in Karnataka. Using primary data from his own practice, he argues that such proposals will only increase costs while decreasing quality of healthcare services, eventually leading to a crippled healthcare market.

Street Vendors Act Compliance Index Report (launched on 12 April 2017) is an annual update on states’ compliance with the Street Vendors Act (2014). The index compares and ranks states across the country based on their compliance with the Street Vendors Act (2014).

The launch was accompanied by a panel discussion on the rights and recognition of street vendors in India. Our panelists included Atishi Marlena, Banwari Lal, Dr. Parth J. Shah, Prashant Narang and Dr. Yugank Goyal. The panel discussed the important role of various stakeholders in ensuring proper implementation of the act.
