'No detention' policy under Right to Education Act (RTE) requires promoting a child without ensuring learning outcomes and raises concerns of dropout rates, demoralization of the students etc. Now the question arises: Are only zero-sum outcomes of detaining and compelling a child to repeat the grade or promoting the child without attaining requisite learning the only options? Does this call for a pedagogical transformation?
