The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted schooling across India, disproportionately impacting children in low-income and rural communities. This study investigates how parents in rural Jharkhand perceived the responsiveness of public and private K-12 education providers during this crisis. Based on a large-scale survey of 4,162 parents across five districts, the report captures parental perspectives on communication, learning continuity, and school support during lockdowns.

The blue economy is rapidly evolving, driven by technological advancements, sustainable practices, and emerging sectors, while existing curricula do not adequately address these changing industry needs.

The Indian education system has long been dependent on rote learning. This dependence has created a significant learning gap between what students learn and their ability to apply it. This pedagogical approach does not align with the economic demands of the 21st century. On the one hand, rote learning focuses on intense memorisation; on the other hand, enquiry-based learning focuses more on students' holistic development.

Private schools today play a significant role in delivering quality education across India. They educate millions of children to supplement the state’s role in education delivery. Presently, they operate within a legal framework that treats education as a strictly not-for-profit and charitable activity. This hampers their ability to raise investments and support day-to-day functioning.

The Language Learning Lab (LLL), under the Bolo English Project and supported by Procter & Gamble (P&G), is a technology-enabled initiative implemented by the Centre for Civil Society (CCS) to strengthen spoken English proficiency in Budget Private Schools (BPS).

The Betiyan Scholarship Program, supported by Procter & Gamble (P&G) and implemented in partnership with the Centre for Civil Society, was launched in 2021–22 to address the persistent gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Supply Chain Management education.

In consonance with the essence of the New Education Policy, our education governance needs major reforms in order to align itself with the needs of the 21st century. Bulk of this responsibility lies with state governments since they are deeply connected with the educational realities that shape learning outcomes on ground. The case of Bihar presents an opportunity to test these propositions as it is a state having a substantial share of India’s school going population, having resource constraints and visible socio-economic vulnerabilities. 

P&G Betiyan Scholarship Program, launched in collaboration with the Centre for Civil Society in 2021-22, is focused on addressing the gender gap in STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Supply Chain Management education. Through the provision of comprehensive financial assistance and mentorship support, this program empowers young girls to pursue careers in STEM and Supply Chain Management fields.
