Junior Legal Associate – Jeevika

Role Summary
The Junior Legal Associate will be part of the Jeevika Project Unit under the Policy, Impact & Outreach Department at the Centre for Civil Society (CCS). The role supports Jeevika, CCS’s flagship initiative advancing legal empowerment and livelihood freedom for India’s street vendors.
The Associate will contribute to legal research, field-linked documentation, and advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening the implementation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
This is a research-intensive position ideal for individuals passionate about using law and policy to expand economic freedom and strengthen urban livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
A. Legal Research & Analysis
- Conduct statutory interpretation, case law analysis, and comparative review of livelihood-related regulations.
- Draft RTIs, legal notices, writs alongside vendor complaints.
- Maintain a repository of judgments, circulars, and policy updates relevant to the Street Vendors Act.
B. Field-Based Legal Support
- Conduct field visits to courts and markets across Delhi, Jaipur and Lucknow to support Jeevika’s legal aid and grievance redressal activities.
- Record and categorize grievances using the Jeevika App and digital tools.
- Assist in organizing legal awareness camps, documentation drives, and vendor outreach sessions.
- Coordinate with partner lawyers, paralegals, and municipal officials to follow up on cases.
Reporting to
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a reputed university
- Published or unpublished research work at the bachelor’s/master’s level (academic papers, reports, or blogs).
- Prior internship or experience in legal aid, research, or livelihood-related law (preferred).
