Dr Gagandeep Kang (FRS) is a Professor of Microbiology in the Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences of the Christian Medical College in Vellore. She currently serves on the Board of Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and is the first Indian woman to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom.

Dr Kang is well known for her research on viral infections in children in India. Her notable research areas include the establishment of multi-site surveillance for rotavirus and typhoid and testing of rotaviral and poliovirus vaccines. She has received international, honorary appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. She serves on advisory committees for the World Health Organisation, the Wellcome Trust and several other agencies.

Her earlier engagements include serving as the Executive Director of the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), a Government of India-led institute that plays a major role in COVID-19 studies.
