What is the workshop about?

At this workshop, the participants can get a preliminary understanding of key concepts in statistics relevant to public policy research. These concepts include - basic probability, sampling, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, etc. Participants will learn these concepts as tools, with the end goal of applying them to real-world scenarios. The session will focus primarily on the application of these concepts via examples, including some negative examples with improper use of statistics to avoid common (and often dangerous!) pitfalls. Furthermore, we will also look at scenarios where we will encounter theoretical limits on applying statistics.

When and Where?

February 19th 2023, via Zoom

Session 1: 10 AM – 12 PM  Session 2: 2 PM - 4:30 PM

What are the key takeaways?

 > Applying statistical techniques to specific problems in public policy.

> Developing a mindset to analyse data from statistical and probabilistic perspectives.

> Recognizing the limitations of analysis and assertions (admitting that we don’t know what we don’t know).

What is the eligibility criteria?

Anyone above 18 who is interested in Public Policy Analysis and Application of Statistics can apply.
