Repeal of Laws Tracker

"The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) invited suggestions from the public to improve the ease of doing business in India. In response, CCS submitted its ‘Repeal of 100 Laws’ Report.

‘Repeal of 100 Laws' project was initiated in 2014 with the aim to identify laws that could be repealed on account of redundancy, obsolescence and hindrance to development, governance and freedom. In an effort to institutionalize the repealing of laws as a constitutional practice for India, CCS celebrates  26th November as National Repeal Law Day.

DPIIT received our recommendations well and invited us for a consultation where we got the opportunity of presenting our findings to 17 Joint Secretaries across Ministries. Ms Supriya Devasthali, Director, DPIIT asked the Joint Secretaries to provide a justification for some laws from our Report that were not yet repealed. Further, DPIIT requested us to share our research on the decriminalisation of state education laws and compare state public service delivery laws."
