Language Learning Lab (LLL) Project Annual Report 2025-26

The Language Learning Lab (LLL), under the Bolo English Project and supported by Procter & Gamble (P&G), is a technology-enabled initiative implemented by the Centre for Civil Society (CCS) to strengthen spoken English proficiency in Budget Private Schools (BPS).

Building on three years of mobile-based self-learning (2020–2023), the Lab was introduced as a pilot in April 2024 to address a critical gap- the limited availability of trained English teachers and effective learning tools in underserved communities. The program integrates app-based learning, teacher capacity-building and community engagement to make English not just a subject, but a practical, everyday skill for students.

Currently, the project is being implemented across 15 schools in Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh, reaching over 7,500 students from Grades 1 to 8. Anchored in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR),  LLL focuses on strengthening fluency, pronunciation, listening, comprehension, vocabulary and grammar, while also building students’ confidence to communicate effectively.

A key highlight of the year was the Savitribai Phule Speaking Bee Competition, where over 200 students demonstrated their progress in spoken English and built their public speaking skills through interactive and performance-based activities such as storytelling, declamation and news anchoring. The event reflected the program’s on-ground impact and showcased how sustained support and innovative learning methods can drive meaningful outcomes even in resource-constrained settings.

Through its integrated approach, the Language Learning Lab is helping bridge foundational learning gaps and expand opportunities by equipping students with essential communication skills.
