Building an engaging digital knowledge ecosystem accessible to all

At the Centre for Civil Society, ideas are our starting point, but impact is our destination. As we begin a new year, January reaffirmed a core belief that has steadily guided our work: knowledge must not only be rigorous but also accessible, engaging, and widely shared. In recent years, we have increasingly recognised that for ideas to shape public discourse, they must be communicated in ways that are accessible, engaging, and durable. Our growing focus on audio-visual knowledge creation reflects this conviction, and January was a strong illustration of that effort.

CCS has been steadily building a digital knowledge ecosystem through webinars, eBaithaks, lectures, and curated video series, publishing them on our YouTube channel and amplifying their reach through the CCS website and social media platforms. These formats allow us to retain intellectual depth while reaching students, researchers, educators, policymakers, and engaged citizens across the country and beyond. More importantly, they ensure that conversations continue long after an event concludes.

In January, CCS organised two webinars and two eBaithaks, each addressing critical questions at the intersection of policy, society, and ideas. We began with an eBaithak featuring Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, on Wikipedia and the Future of Information. This wide-ranging discussion examined credibility, decentralisation, and the evolving challenges of knowledge production in the digital age.

We also hosted a timely webinar on Delhi’s Air Pollution: What Lies Beneath, which moved beyond surface-level narratives to examine the deeper regulatory and institutional causes of a persistent urban crisis. The webinar started with a paper presentation by Gaurav Gupta and a fireside chat with Kiran Bedi, Former IPS Officer and former Lieutenant Governor. It was followed by a panel discussion with Lalit Patil Bahale of Shetkari Sanghatana and Priyanka Singh of Council on Energy, Environment and Water.

Another key webinar, Beyond Compliance: Driving Regulatory Reforms for Outcome-Based Learning, focused on rethinking education regulation, shifting from input-heavy compliance towards frameworks centred on learning outcomes, innovation, and choice. This conversation aligns closely with CCS’s long-standing work in education reform. The speakers included Gurcharan Das, a renowned author and columnist; Kavita Anand of the Adhyayan Education Foundation; and Panch Rishi Dev Sharma of the University of Lucknow.

The month concluded with an eBaithak featuring John Tomasi on Heterodox Academy: Why Open Societies Need Open Inquiry. The discussion reinforced the importance of intellectual diversity, open debate, and academic freedom, the values central to our work at CCS.

These January engagements build on a strong foundation laid in 2025, during which CCS published four major video series: Liberalism in India, Liberty and Society, Education Unpacked, and lectures and discussions from the School Choice National Conference 2025, alongside numerous discussions and lectures. Together, these form a growing library of educational resources designed to inform, challenge, and inspire.

As we move forward, CCS will continue to invest in high-quality audio-visual content as a core strategy for impact. In an age of information abundance, clarity, openness, and thoughtful inquiry matter more than ever, and we remain committed to ensuring that sound ideas travel farther and endure longer.

CCS Star Alumni of the Month

Yugank Goel

Associate Professor of Public Policy at
FLAME University

Yugank Goyal participated in the Liberty & Society Seminar in 2005 and interned with CCS in 2005. He obtained his Ph.D. in Law and Economics from Erasmus Mundus University in 2015. Yugank was one of the founding faculty members who helped establish the law school at O.P. Jindal Global University. He also helped to set up the Indian School of Public Policy.

He is now Associate Professor of Public Policy at FLAME University where he teaches interdisciplinary courses on public policy, new institutional economics, law and economics, future studies and ethics. His research in the areas of regulation, institutional economics, knowledge systems, law and development have been published in high-impact journals. He also consults and advises the government on public policies. He’s been a member of the National Education Policy (NEP) Steering Committee, government of Maharashtra, and a Regional Advisory Council Member, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, government of India.
